Yesterday the children led our community in burying the alleluia for Lent. This is a symbolic way of moving from the Season of Epiphany into the Season of Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday, March 6, this year. As part of the penitential expression of this Lenten time, we refrain from saying alleluia as we focus our hearts and minds on the road to Jerusalem traveled by Jesus. On this pilgrimage, the church community is invited to reflect on the love of God that transforms us. This gracious love provides us the gift of forgiveness, repentance and the opportunity to give thanks for God’s, boundless love. As we bury the alleluia for Lent, we remember that we are buried with Christ in his death and we are raised with Christ in his resurrection.
